Species: Yellow Backline Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi)
Yellow Backline Shrimp are a vibrant and unique variation of Neocaridina, known for their bright yellow bodies accented by a distinct, lighter dorsal stripe running along their back. This “backline” gives them a striking, high-contrast look that stands out beautifully in planted aquariums. Hardy and beginner-friendly, they are a great addition to both nano tanks and larger community setups.
Yellow Backline Shrimp are a selectively bred strain of Neocaridina davidi, featuring a bold yellow coloration with a defined stripe along the dorsal ridge. This line can appear cream, gold, or even neon yellow depending on the individual and lighting. Like other Neocaridina shrimp, they are constant grazers, feeding on biofilm, algae, and detritus, helping keep the aquarium clean and balanced. They thrive in established tanks with plants, moss, and natural surfaces.

Yellow Backline Shrimp are peaceful and do best in colonies where they feel secure and display natural behaviors. They spend most of their time grazing on plants, substrate, and décor. Compatible with small, non-aggressive fish and other peaceful invertebrates. Avoid housing with larger or predatory species that may view them as food.
Yellow Backline Shrimp breed readily in stable freshwater aquariums. Offspring may vary in color intensity and stripe definition, so selective breeding can help maintain a strong backline trait. Their coloration is enhanced with high-quality nutrition, stable water parameters, and darker substrates for contrast. As with all shrimp, avoid copper and sudden parameter changes to ensure long-term health and colony success.
