Corydoras similis, often called the Violet Cory or False Julii Cory, is a peaceful and rarely seen bottom-dwelling catfish with fine dark spotting across a light body and subtle violet iridescence. Native to Brazil’s Rio Madeira basin, this species is a great choice for aquarists looking for a unique and active addition to planted or community tanks. Similis Corys are social and thrive when kept in groups of five or more.

Similis Corys are peaceful and do best in schools. Their active foraging and playful interactions make them a joy to watch. They’re compatible with other small, peaceful species like tetras, rasboras, dwarf gouramis, and shrimp.
A soft sand substrate is ideal to protect their sensitive barbels. Provide plants, driftwood, and hiding spots to mimic their natural environment. Gentle filtration and stable water conditions will help them thrive.
