Chinese High Fin Loach (Myxocyprinus asiaticus) – A Rare and Graceful River Giant
Description:
The Chinese High Fin Loach, also known as the Chinese Sailfin Sucker, is a striking and unique freshwater species prized for its dramatic dorsal fin and distinct juvenile coloration. Juveniles display bold black and white bands with a sail-like fin that gradually recedes as the fish matures into a more streamlined form with a bronze-pink hue. Native to the fast-flowing rivers of China, this species is well-suited for spacious aquariums or outdoor ponds with cooler water conditions and plenty of current.
These loaches are peaceful, slow-growing, and can live for decades with proper care. They are best kept in a group and provided with ample room to swim and explore.

Chinese High Fin Loaches are peaceful bottom-dwellers that enjoy cool, oxygen-rich water with strong currents. While juveniles are commonly kept in aquariums, adults outgrow most home tanks and are better suited for large custom aquariums or temperate outdoor ponds. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive or much smaller fish. Ideal tankmates include other peaceful, cool-water species like goldfish (non-fancy), river loaches, and danios.
