The Apistogramma borellii “Opal” is a stunning and peaceful dwarf cichlid variety, admired for its shimmering opalescent blue body, golden facial highlights, and red accents on the fins. Native to Paraguay and surrounding regions, this species is one of the hardiest and most beginner-friendly Apistogramma, thriving in a wide range of water conditions.
The Opal Borellii makes an excellent centerpiece fish for planted aquariums, particularly in community setups. Its gentle temperament, smaller size, and ease of care make it a favorite among both new and experienced aquarists. Males display especially vibrant colors, while females show golden tones and strong breeding behavior in well-prepared aquariums.
